Cellist Avery Waite is an active performer, educator, blogger and composer. He has been involved in a wide range of education programs, social justice initiatives and cultural diplomacy projects in North American, Europe and Asia. Avery recently returned from Kabul, where he spent seven months teaching cello, double-bass, and music classes at The Afghanistan National Institute of Music. Originally from California, Avery has appeared in concert at Avery Fisher Hall, The Kennedy Center, Alice Tully Hall, MOMA, Carnegie Hall and has performed solo in Poland, Italy and France. Avery has been a featured performer on Sesame Street and was also recently selected to perform in concert with Itzhak Perlman at the 2012 Perlman Music Program. A proponent of contemporary music, Avery has been involved in several western hemisphere and world premieres and has collaborated with many composers, most notably George Crumb and Charles Wuorinen. A great lover of all chamber music, he has studied chamber music with members of the Cleveland, Guarneri, Juilliard and Takacs String Quartets. Avery completed his undergraduate studies at Oberlin Conservatory in 2010 and received a Masters degree from The Juilliard School in 2012.
